Sometime last weekend, a fella from Nashville came browsing through Goldmine and complimented me on the shop. He was on tour with his band Parachute Musical and dropped off a couple of CD’s for me to listen to. Played the album and soon found myself playing the hand drums and loving the vocals. Didn’t catch his name but I’m pretty sure he was Josh Foster, the lead singer and pianist by the look of the band’s photos. Check them out if you haven’t already! The band’s on pretty solid rotation here at GOLDMINE UNLIMITED.

Interview with Karen Hagen
Since being back from my month long hiatus, some of the regulars have asked me how the experiment with the store went. I really didn’t have the answer so I thought to have an interview with the two in charge during that month and let them explain how things went. First UP! Karen Hagen:
GU: What expectations if any did you have in “taking over” the shop for a month?
KH: I expected it to be a little slow for the month of January, but I also expected people to be lured in by our charms. We still had many customers rooting through our loot, asking questions, making great conversation.
GU: Can you tell me an interesting moment from the month at the shop?
KH: I had a long long long philosophical conversation with one lady who came in that lasted about an hour. It was random and great. I also made the realization that everybody secretly misses their Nintendo, and it’s not just me.
GU: what is the one thing that you’ve gained or experienced during the “take over?”
KH: Well, a new level of affinity for the place, an urge to “take over” again in a heartbeat, and an anticipation of future “experiments.”
GU: From your experience in running the shop, is there anything that you would do differently than how its done currently?
KH: Nope, I like how Goldmine rolls…
GU: In hind sight, is there anything that you wished you could have done that you didn’t?
KH: I wanted to have a dance-partty on the side walk where I enticed passers-by to dance. I also wanted to have a free-coffee-in-the-gallery day…but weather was uncooperative. I hope to help orchestrate such things in the future.
GU: Did you have fun?
KH: I always have fun at Goldmine, I think it’s where fun lives, quite honestly.
